All about the art
Artist Harmony James
process
I begin each piece with a vision in mind, but allow the materials and my instincts to guide me as I work. I believe that the process of creating art should be just as fulfilling as the finished piece - and the messier the better.
I love storytelling and most of my work is influenced by the people, places, and things I've encountered.
EXPERIENCE
I’ve been working as an artist all my life. My work is an expression of my experience and painting is an oasis that nourishes me. It allows me to release, renew, and evolve. It's life-giving.
Little me was most playful when creating art with my family. This love never faded and now illuminates every moment of my life with "a fire for every experience and a freedom that both dazzles and dizzies me". It's all over my heart and I hope you love its expression as much as I do.
style
My work is influenced by the vibrant colors and textures of the world around me. I strive to create art that is both visually stunning and emotionally impactful. Meaning is important and in most of my paintings you'll find the look of layers, of mess ups and paint overs, etc. This aspect of my style is fundamental to the way I experience myself and everything around me. We are all so full of life and we are layered by time and experience which creates a breathtaking depth that to omit from my expressions would be cruel. It is the richness of our depths that give us the meaning we carry out into the world around us to love with and live with, siempre.
I use many different mediums, such as spray paint, acrylics, charcoal, and pastels to create abstract paintings. I work with an expansive array of mediums in my process and my process changes all the time. Each idea creates its own style. Most of my pieces land somewhere near the edges of abstract, contemporary, and expressionist art styles.
